About the game

Sudoku is the world's favourite number puzzle. Fill the empty squares of the 9x9 grid so that every row, every column and every 3x3 box contains each number from 1 to 9 exactly once. No maths required, just logic and a sharp eye. Play Sudoku online free in your browser or on your phone, no download and no sign-up hassle.

Every puzzle is freshly generated and has exactly one correct solution, so you can solve as many sudokus as you like!

How to play

• Tap an empty square and choose a number from the keypad below. On a computer you can also type numbers on your keyboard.
• The row, column and box of the selected square are highlighted, and so are matching numbers.
• Wrong numbers turn red. Make 3 mistakes and the game is over.
• In ✏️ Notes mode you can pencil several small candidates into a square. When you enter the right number, the related notes are cleared automatically.
• The small digit under each number key shows how many more of that number you still need to place.

Sudoku solving techniques

• Single candidate: If the row, column and box rules leave only one possible number for a square, that number goes there.
• Hidden single: If a number has only one possible square left in a row, column or box, it belongs in that square.
• Take notes: On hard puzzles, pencilling candidates into every square makes eliminating options much easier.
• Naked pairs: If two squares in the same unit can only hold the same two candidates, remove those two numbers from every other square in that unit.
