About the game
Penalty Shootout brings the most thrilling moment in football to your browser, free. Take the penalty or stand in goal and try to save it! Play three different modes against the computer, or go online and take turns with a real opponent: when you shoot they keep goal, and when they shoot you keep goal.
Game modes
- 🔁 Shootout: a real penalty shootout against the computer. 5 kicks each, then sudden death.
- ⚽ Take Penalties: take 5 penalties against the computer keeper. Score them all for a bonus!
- 🧤 Be the Keeper: stand in goal and try to save 5 penalties. Watch the shooter's body.
- 🌐 Online: open a table, invite a friend or get matched with a waiting opponent.
How to play
- Shoot (drag and release): drag the ball towards the goal with your finger on mobile or your mouse on desktop, and release it where you want it to go (e.g. the top left corner). A dashed arrow and a target ring show where it is heading.
- Power = drag speed: the colour turns from green to red. Green is ideal; on red the ball may fly over or wide, and a very slow drag is easy for the keeper.
- Swerve: draw a curved path while dragging to bend the ball; it troubles the keeper but is slightly less accurate.
- Classic controls: tap the goal, then tap again while the power bar is green (Space/Enter also work on desktop).
- Save: as the keeper, swipe the way you will dive: left/right for the low corners, diagonally up for the top corners, up for top centre, down for bottom centre. You can also tap an area; a short tap outside the goal means stay central.
- On higher difficulty the keeper reads your shots better and shooters fool you more often.

Tips
- Top corners: the hardest place for the keeper, but also the easiest to miss. Keep the power in the green.
- Mix it up: the computer keeper learns your favourite corner. Change it!
- Down the middle: if the keeper dives, a firm shot down the middle goes in, but if they stay put it is an easy save.
- In goal: on easy and medium the shooter's lean and the yellow line usually show the right side.
FAQ
Can I play without an account? Yes, play against the computer right away. You need a free account for online matches and the leaderboard.
How do I earn points? Every goal you score and every penalty you save earns points; on hard, points are doubled. An online win is +20 points.
Does it work on mobile? Yes, play with touch in portrait or landscape.
