About the game
Words & Numbers is a quick-fire brain game that puts your vocabulary and your mental arithmetic to the test in a single match. In the letters rounds you hunt for the longest English word hidden in a random set of letters; in the numbers rounds you juggle six numbers with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to land on a three-digit target. After every round you get to see the best answer the computer found, so each game teaches you a new trick. Play Words and Numbers online free in your browser, on desktop or mobile, with no download.
How to play
- Words round (60 seconds): You get 8 letters plus 1 joker. Build the longest real English word you can from them. The joker can stand in for any letter. Words are checked against a dictionary of more than 40,000 English words.
- Numbers round (90 seconds): You get five single-digit numbers and one of 25, 50, 75 or 100. Use +, −, × and ÷ to reach the 3-digit target. The result of every step becomes a new number card you can keep using.
- A game has 4 rounds: Words, Numbers, Words, Numbers.
- Scoring: In the words round every letter is worth 10 points (a 9-letter word scores 90). In the numbers round a bullseye scores 100, 1-3 away scores 70, 4-6 away scores 50 and 7-9 away scores 30.

Tips and tricks
- Look for endings: -ING, -ED, -ER, -EST and -S can turn a short word into a long one. Spot them first and build backwards.
- Save the joker: Find a solid word without it, then see whether the joker lets you add one more letter.
- Start big in the numbers round: Find the multiple of the large number closest to the target (for example 75 × 8 = 600), then close the gap with the small ones.
- Close counts: If you can't hit the target exactly, get as near as you can. You still score points up to 9 away.
FAQ
Which words are allowed? Any standard English word of 3 to 9 letters in the game's dictionary, including plurals and verb forms such as "cats" or "walked". Names, abbreviations and offensive words are not accepted.
I ran out of time, what can I do? Watch a short ad to add 30 seconds to a round (twice per game).
How do leaderboard points work? You earn a tenth of your game score as points (up to 38 per game). Your best score is shown on the leaderboard.
