About the game
2048 is a sliding number puzzle with dead-simple rules that is surprisingly hard to put down. Slide the tiles on a 4x4 board and merge two tiles with the same number into a bigger one: 2 and 2 make 4, 4 and 4 make 8, and so on. Your mission is to build the 2048 tile! Play 2048 online free right in your browser, on desktop or mobile, with no download.
How to play
- Swipe with your finger on mobile, or use the arrow keys on a computer.
- Every tile slides as far as it can in the direction you choose.
- When two tiles with the same number collide they merge, and the new tile's value is added to your score.
- After each move a new 2 (sometimes a 4) appears in an empty cell.
- When the board is full and no merges are possible, the game is over.

2048 strategy tips
- Corner strategy: Keep your biggest tile in one corner and never move it out. Most experienced players pick the bottom-left corner.
- Two-direction rule: Stick to just two directions (for example left and down) as much as you can, and only use a third when you have no choice.
- Build a chain: Line up each smaller tile next to the bigger one in the corner, snaking along the rows like a staircase.
- Take your time: There is no timer, so think about where the next tile could land before every move.
FAQ
Does the game end when I reach 2048? No, you can keep playing for 4096 and beyond.
How is the score calculated? Your score is the sum of every tile you create by merging. On the leaderboard you earn 1 point for every 100 score, plus a 50-point bonus for reaching 2048.
I made a bad move, can I undo it? When the game is over you can watch a short ad to undo your last 3 moves (once per game).
