About the game
Rail Runner is a fast-paced endless runner set on a busy railway line that cuts right through the city. Your hero, a kid with a backwards cap and a bright backpack, sprints along the tracks on his own; your job is to switch lanes to dodge trains, jump over barriers and slide underneath them. Grab coins and power-ups along the way, and keep going as the pace picks up every second. The goal is simple: run further than ever before and beat your record!
The game uses a behind-the-runner 3D view with real depth: graffiti-covered walls, overhead line gantries, rows of city buildings, golden sunsets and neon nights. There is nothing to download, and it plays free in your browser on phones, tablets and computers.
How to play
- Phone: swipe left or right to change lanes, swipe up to jump and swipe down to slide.
- Computer: use โ โ (or A, D) to change lanes, โ, W or Space to jump, and โ or S to slide. P pauses the game.
- Jump over low barriers and slide under high barriers. Red no-entry signs and trains block the whole lane, so dodge them by switching lanes.
- Trains with a ramp in front of them can be climbed, and you can run along their roofs, where plenty of coins are usually waiting.
- Trains with their headlights on are coming towards you. Spot them early and get out of the way.
- If you scrape the side of a train while changing lanes, you stumble. Scrape again before you recover and the run is over. A head-on crash ends the run immediately.

Missions and records
There are 18 missions to tackle: run anywhere from 500 m to 8,000 m in a single run, grab 50, 150 or 300 coins in one go, save up thousands of coins in total, clock up kilometres and collect dozens of power-ups. Each completed mission gives you a one-time bonus on the leaderboard. Your best distance and total coins are saved to your account, so every run is a chance to go a little further.
Tips
- Look ahead: the faster you go, the less time you have to react. Keep your eyes a couple of trains ahead, not on your runner.
- Use the rooftops: a train roof is often the safest route, far away from the barriers and signs below.
- Jump and slide early: swiping down in mid-air drops you straight to the ground into a slide, and a jump pressed just before landing still counts.
- Stay calm after a stumble: while the screen edges glow red, avoid switching lanes next to trains.
- Combine the magnet with ร2: with both active at once, your coin count shoots up.
Frequently asked questions
How is the score calculated? Your record is the distance you run, in metres. Leaderboard points are added after every run based on your distance and coins, and completed missions give extra bonuses.
I crashed. Can I continue? Once per run you can watch a short ad to clear the track ahead and keep running from where you stopped.
What are coins for? Coins add to your leaderboard points and count towards missions; your total is saved on your profile.
Can I play on my phone? Yes. The game was designed for portrait screens with swipe controls, and it plays just as well with a keyboard on a computer.
