About the game

Dominoes is one of the world's best-loved table games: simple to learn, yet every hand is a fresh little battle of wits. In this version you play the classic double-six set of 28 tiles against the computer, on a green felt table with a polished wooden rim. The ivory tiles have carved pips and a brass pin in the middle, and every tile lands with a satisfying "clack", just like at a real table.

Play 2 players against a single opponent, or 4 players in teams with a computer partner sitting opposite you. In Block dominoes a player who can't play simply passes; in Draw dominoes they draw from the pile until they can. You choose the target score (100, 150 or 200) and the opponent level (Easy, Medium or Hard). Play dominoes online free in your browser on your phone, tablet or computer: no download, no sign-up required.

How to play

  • Everyone gets 7 tiles (5 each in a 4-player Draw game, with the rest going to the pile).
  • In the first hand the player holding the biggest double opens with it. After that, whoever won the previous hand starts.
  • On your turn, play a tile on one of the open ends of the line so that the numbers match. Your playable tiles glow.
  • On a phone: tap a tile and it is placed automatically if it fits only one end. If it fits both, tap one of the flashing spots or drag the tile onto the table.
  • On a computer: click or drag with the mouse. On the keyboard, pick a tile with ← →, play it with Enter and draw with D.
  • The first to empty their hand wins the hand and scores the total pips left in the opponents' hands.
  • If nobody can play, the game is blocked: whoever holds the fewest pips wins the hand and scores the opponents' pips.
  • The first side to reach the target score wins the game.

Dominoes tips

  • Get rid of heavy tiles: if an opponent goes out, every pip left in your hand counts for them. Playing your 6s and 5s early lowers the risk.
  • Don't sit on doubles: a double only matches one number. Play it when you get the chance or you may get stuck with it.
  • Keep your numbers varied: the more different numbers you hold, the more likely you can play every turn. If you hold several tiles of one number, keep that number open.
  • Remember the passes: if an opponent passed on a number, keeping that number on the ends can force them to pass again.
  • Block when it pays: if you hold fewer pips than your opponents, blocking the game wins you the hand. If you hold more, steer clear of it.
  • Play for your partner: in the team game, don't close the number your partner just opened, and avoid leaving numbers they have passed on.

FAQ

Is Dominoes free? Yes, completely free. It runs in your browser on phones and computers without any download.
What is the difference between Block and Draw? In Block, a player who can't play passes. In Draw, they draw from the pile until they get a playable tile, and only pass once the pile is empty.
How is scoring done? The side that wins a hand scores the pips left in the opponents' hands. Win the game to earn leaderboard points: for a target of 100/150/200 you get 10/15/20 against Easy, 15/23/30 against Medium and 20/30/40 against Hard opponents.
What are hints and rematches? Watch a short ad to see the best move, up to 3 times per game. If you lose, you can watch an ad for a rematch and double your points if you win it.
Who is my partner in the 4-player game? The computer player sitting opposite you (Emma). If either of you goes out, your team wins the hand.
