About the game

Rage Cube is a rhythm-driven reflex game where you guide a little cube that runs across the screen on its own, using nothing but a single tap. The cube never stops moving to the right; all you have to do is jump at the right moment. Sounds easy? It is, right up until three spikes line up in front of you, a saw starts spinning and gravity suddenly flips upside down. The name is well earned: dying twenty times in the same spot and finally clearing it on the twenty-first try is exactly the feeling that keeps you glued to the screen.

There are 12 hand-crafted levels, each lasting between 53 and 78 seconds and flowing along to its own electronic soundtrack. Obstacles are laid out on the beat, so most jumps land right on the rhythm, which makes turning the sound on your best friend. The levels ramp up from "Easy" to "Insane" and introduce one new mechanic at a time: jump pads, mid-air rings, gravity portals, speed portals, a ship you fly by holding down, and a mini cube that squeezes through tight tunnels. The look is neon and geometric from start to finish, with glowing edges, lights that pulse to the beat, shapes drifting in the background and a colour theme for every level. This rhythm platformer is built entirely from original artwork and music; play Rage Cube online free in your browser or on your phone, no download needed.

Every level was run through a computer solver before it went into the game and then played all the way to the end from a recorded input sequence. However brutal a level looks, it is proven to be beatable, and because the physics are fully deterministic, a level plays out exactly the same way on every attempt. Memorising, feeling the rhythm and staying patient all pay off.

How to play

  • Jump: tap the screen on a phone, or press Space or ↑ or click on a computer. Hold it down and the cube jumps again every time it lands.
  • Deadly things: spikes, spinning saws, gaps in the floor and the sides of blocks. You can safely run along the top of blocks.
  • Pads and rings: a yellow pad launches you high, a pink pad gives you a small hop. Tap while passing through a ring in mid-air for a second jump.
  • Portals: the yellow portal flips gravity so you run on the ceiling, the blue one brings you back down. Arrow portals change your speed; after a ship portal, hold to climb and let go to sink. The mini portal shrinks the cube.
  • Progress: the bar at the top shows how far through the level you are and marks your best percentage. When you die you restart in 0.6 seconds, and the attempt counter keeps track of every try.
  • Practice mode: drop green diamond checkpoints wherever you like and respawn there when you die. Finishing in practice gives no points, but it is the best way to learn a tough level piece by piece.
  • Continue where you left off: once per level in normal mode, you can watch a short ad to carry on from 3 seconds before your last death.

Rage Cube tips

  • Turn the sound on and follow the beat: obstacles sit on the beat. Once you start jumping with the drums, your timing sorts itself out.
  • Don't press too early or let go too late: jump close to a single spike, and a touch earlier for a row of three. On back-to-back spikes, simply holding down is often the safest route, since the cube bounces again on every landing.
  • Small taps in the ship: keep the ship steady with short, frequent taps rather than long holds, and aim for the middle of each narrow gate.
  • Practice first: put a checkpoint right before the part that keeps killing you and drill it. Once it feels easy in practice, go for a clean run in normal mode.
  • Take a break when it gets to you: the name says it all. After a short pause you will often clear that "impossible" bit on the very first try.

FAQ

Can every level really be beaten? Yes. Each level was scanned with a computer solver and verified by replaying a recorded input sequence all the way to the finish. The physics give the same result every time, so luck never plays a part.
How are points calculated? Clearing a level for the first time earns points based on its difficulty: Easy 3, Normal 5, Hard 8, Harder 12, Expert 18, Insane 25. On top of that, every new 10% of your best run is worth +1. Practice mode earns no points.
How do I unlock new levels? Beat a level in normal mode and the next one opens up. Every cleared level also unlocks a new cube pattern and colour, so you can design your own cube in the Cube menu.
Can I play on my phone? Yes. In portrait the play area sits at the top with a big tap zone underneath, and in landscape the game fills the whole screen.
Is my progress saved? When you are signed in, your best percentage on each level, your cleared levels and your cube design are saved to your account, so you can pick up where you left off on any device.
