About the game
Batak is Turkey's favourite trick-taking card game, played by four people with a standard 52-card deck. If you know Spades or Bridge you'll feel right at home — but Batak has its own flavour. Here you play bidding Batak (ihaleli batak): each round you estimate how many tricks you can win and join the auction, and if you win the bid, you choose trump. Play for free against three computer opponents, right in your browser with no download.
How to play
- Each player is dealt 13 cards. Players take turns to bid (minimum 5) or pass.
- The highest bidder chooses the trump suit and leads the first card.
- Everyone must follow suit, and if possible must also beat the highest card on the table.
- If you can't follow suit, you must play a trump. With no trumps either, you may play any card.
- You can't lead trumps until trumps are broken.
- The highest trump on the table wins the trick; if there is no trump, the highest card of the suit led wins.
Scoring
- Every trick you take is worth 1 point.
- If the bid winner takes at least as many tricks as they bid, they score one point per trick.
- If they fall short, they go down (batar) and lose points equal to their bid.
- After the chosen number of rounds (3, 5 or 7), the highest score wins.

Batak tips
- Bid realistically: count your aces, kings with a small card beside them and the extra length of your trump suit. Going down is expensive.
- Draw trumps: if you won the bid with strong trumps, lead them once trumps are broken to pull out your opponents' trumps.
- Create a short suit: run out of a suit early and you can ruff it with a trump whenever it's led.
- Count the cards: keep track of which high cards have gone. When your card is the highest left, lead it with confidence.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if everyone passes? The last player to speak has to take the bid with at least 4.
How strong are the opponents? Choose easy, medium or hard. Hard opponents count cards and bid more accurately.
How are leaderboard points calculated? Every game you finish in first place earns points based on the number of rounds and difficulty. After a win you can watch a short ad to double them.
Is it free? Yes — Batak is completely free to play online, on mobile and desktop.
