About the game
Name City is a free online version of the classic pen-and-paper word game that Turkish kids play on the back pages of their school notebooks, at family gatherings and on long car trips; you may know it as “Scattergories-style” or “Stop”. A letter is drawn, the clock starts and everyone writes at once: a name, a city, an animal, a plant and a thing that all start with that letter. No paper needed: play right in your browser on phone or computer.
Your answers are checked instantly against word lists with thousands of entries: world cities, animals, plants, everyday things, countries, jobs and foods. Capital letters and accents do not matter, so “zurich”, “ZURICH” and “Zürich” all count.
How to play
- A letter is drawn: the letter card spins and stops. Awkward letters like Q and X never come up.
- Write: fill in a word starting with that letter for every category. You get 60, 90 or 120 seconds.
- Call “Done!”: once every box is filled, hit Done and everyone else has just 10 seconds left.
- Scoring: a correct answer nobody else wrote is worth 10, the same answer as someone else 5, wrong or empty 0.
- Win: the highest total after the last round wins.
Game modes
🤖 Vs computer: pick 1-3 computer rivals on easy, medium or hard. Hard computers know more words and call “Done!” very quickly. You choose the categories, the number of rounds (3, 5, 8) and the time. Wrote a real word that is missing from our list? Tap 💡 Suggest and we will review it.
📅 Daily challenge: every day everyone gets the same letter and the same six categories. One round, 90 seconds, one try! Get everything right and your time left becomes a speed bonus; see where you rank today.
🌐 Online: open a table on Online Name City, send the 🔗 link to your friends and race 2-6 players at once. The host picks the categories, rounds, time, computer players and whether the words are English or Turkish. Answers missing from our list go to a 20-second vote: if the majority accepts, they count.

Tips
- Go for unique answers: skip the obvious “Boston” and try “Bristol” or “Bologna”; a unique answer is worth twice as much.
- Start with the hard boxes: plants and things usually take longest; leave easy names and cities for last.
- Time your “Done!”: calling it early squeezes your rivals, but a wrong answer costs you points.
- Think big: cities from anywhere in the world count, not just capitals.
FAQ
Is Name City free? Yes, completely free. No download; it runs in the browser on phones, tablets and computers.
Is there a celebrity category? No. The Name category is for everyday first names (Emma, Oliver, Sophia...), not famous people.
Why was my answer rejected? In single-player games answers are checked against our word list and missing words do not count. If you are sure it is right, tap 💡 Suggest. At online tables, missing words go to a player vote instead.
How are points calculated? A unique correct answer scores 10 and a shared answer 5. Against the computer, every 40 points of your total gives 1 leaderboard point, plus a bonus for beating the computers based on their number and difficulty. Online, 1st place gets +25, 2nd +15, 3rd +10 and everyone else +5 online points (half at tables with computer players).
