About the game

Road Hopper is a wonderfully addictive endless hopping game where you guide a brave little chicken as far as it can go. Ahead of you lies a map that never ends: grassy meadows, busy roads full of zooming cars, railway crossings where a train blasts past as soon as the warning lights flash, and rivers with logs drifting along. Every hop forward adds a row to your score, so the further you get, the bigger your record.

The game takes place in a charming voxel world made of colourful blocks, seen from a tilted bird's-eye view. Trees, rocks, flowers, buses, trucks and lily pads are all built from little cubes. Collect coins along the way to unlock new characters such as a duck, cat, frog, piglet, penguin, fox, panda and even a robot. There is nothing to download, and it plays free in your browser on phones, tablets and computers.

How to play

  • Phone: tap the screen and your character hops one square forward. Swipe left, right or down to hop in that direction.
  • Computer: hop with the arrow keys (โ†‘ โ† โ†’ โ†“) or W, A, S, D. P pauses the game.
  • On the roads, cars, trucks and buses flow at different speeds and in different directions. Wait for a gap and go; get hit and you'll be flat as a pancake!
  • On the railway, flashing red lights and a ringing bell mean a fast train will roar past in a few seconds. Wait until it has gone.
  • On the river you can only step on logs and lily pads. Fall in the water, or let a log carry you off the edge of the screen, and the run is over.
  • The camera slowly creeps forward. Dawdle for too long and fall behind, and an eagle will swoop down and snatch you!

Tips

  • Don't rush, but don't stop: the camera never stops moving. Catch your breath on a safe patch of grass, but don't wait around for too long.
  • Watch the gaps, not the cars: before stepping onto a road, look at every lane, then hop across in one smooth run. Press early and the next hop is queued up for you.
  • Rest in the slow lane: if there's no grass between two roads, you can take a short break between the cars of a slow lane.
  • Stay in the middle of the log: logs carry you sideways. When you drift towards the edge of the screen, hop left or right to get back to the centre.
  • Listen for the train: as soon as you hear the bell or see the red lights, stop in front of the tracks and hop over right after the train has passed.
  • Don't gamble for one coin: there are plenty of coins along the way, so it's never worth losing a great run for a single one in a dangerous lane.

Frequently asked questions

How is the score calculated? Your score is the furthest row you reach. Leaderboard points are added at the end of every run based on your score and the coins you collected.
I got hit. Can I continue? Once per run you can watch a short ad to carry on from a nearby safe patch of grass. You can also watch an ad once at the end of a run to double that run's coins.
Are the characters different? No, they all hop at the same speed; only their looks are different. Play with whichever one you like best!
Can I play on my phone? Yes. The game was designed for portrait screens and one-finger play: just tap and swipe. It plays just as well with a keyboard on a computer.
