About the game

Okey 101 (101 Okey) is the beloved, more tactical cousin of classic Okey — a staple of Turkish coffee houses and family game nights. Instead of simply completing your rack, you first have to open your hand with sets worth at least 101, then shed the rest of your tiles by adding them to the sets on the table. Every tile left in your hand counts as penalty points, and after a few hands the player with the lowest penalty wins. Play for free against three computer opponents, right in your browser on phone or desktop — no download needed.

How to play

• Four players, 106 tiles. The starting player gets 22 tiles, everyone else 21. The tile one higher than the face-up indicator is the joker (okey) and can stand in for any tile.
• On your turn, draw from the pile or take the tile the player on your left discarded, then discard one tile.
• Opening your hand: your runs (consecutive numbers of the same colour) and groups (the same number in different colours) must add up to at least 101. Or open with at least 5 pairs.
• Once you've opened, you can add tiles to your own sets or your opponents' sets — and if you add the real tile a joker is replacing, you take the joker.
• A tile taken from the left must be used the same turn. Lay down all your tiles and discard your last one to finish the hand.

Penalties and scoring

• The player who finishes scores -101; finish by discarding the joker and everything is doubled.
• A player who never opened gets 202; a player who opened gets the total of the tiles left in their hand (a joker counts as 101).
• Tiles left by players who opened with pairs count double; if the winner opened with pairs, all penalties are doubled.
• After opening, discarding a tile that could be added to a set — or failing to use a tile taken from the discard — is a 101 penalty.
• After 1, 3 or 5 hands, the lowest total penalty wins. Winning earns points based on the number of hands and opponent level; finishing with the joker gives a bonus, and you can watch an ad to double your points.

Okey 101 tips

• Collect high tiles: the fastest way to 101 is with high-value sets such as 10-11-12-13.
• Shed tiles fast once open: every tile left in your hand is a penalty, so add or discard your high tiles first.
• Use the joker wisely: a joker stuck in your hand costs 101. Discard it as your very last tile and everything is doubled.
• Think before taking from the left: if you can't use the tile that turn, you pay a penalty.
• Don't forget pairs: with 5 pairs in hand, opening with pairs can be quick — but tiles left over count double.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between Okey 101 and regular Okey? In regular Okey you arrange all 14 tiles into sets to finish. In Okey 101 you first open with 101 points, then get rid of your tiles by adding them to sets on the table, and the game is scored with penalty points.
How many players are there? You and three computer opponents — four players in total.
How do I open my hand? Press "Open hand": the game checks the sets on your rack and the best automatic arrangement. If the total is 101 or more, confirm to open.
What happens if the pile runs out? The hand ends with no winner: players who didn't open get 101, the others the total of the tiles left in their hand.
