About the game
Turkish draughts (Dama) is the classic board game of Turkish coffee houses and park benches, where you'll often find a crowd gathered around a single board. It's a cousin of checkers, but with a twist that changes everything: pieces move straight — forward and sideways — not diagonally. Each player starts with 16 pieces on an 8x8 board. How to play
- Pieces move one square forward, left or right. They never move backwards or diagonally.
- Capture an opponent's piece in front of you or beside you by jumping over it onto the empty square behind it.
- If you can keep capturing after a jump, you must continue (multi-jump captures).
- Capturing is mandatory, and you must choose the sequence that captures the most pieces.
- A piece that reaches the far row becomes a king. A king moves any number of squares in four directions and can capture pieces from a distance.
- You win by capturing all of your opponent's pieces or leaving them without a legal move.

Turkish draughts tips
- Keep your pieces together: pieces side by side protect each other; a lone piece is easy prey.
- Use mandatory capture: deliberately offer a piece to force your opponent to capture it, then take more pieces in return.
- Kings are gold: a king is worth several pieces. Work on opening a path to the back row.
- Don't empty your back row too early: pieces at the back stop your opponent from crowning a king.
Frequently asked questions
Who moves first? You play the white pieces and make the first move.
I made a mistake — can I undo it? Watch a short ad to take back your last move (up to 3 times per game).
How do I earn points? Each win earns 10, 20 or 40 points depending on difficulty. A draw earns 2 points.
How is this different from checkers? In Turkish draughts pieces move orthogonally instead of diagonally, every square of the board is used, and kings can fly across the board like a rook.
