Daily Puzzle: tips for the longest word and the target number
✍️ Güncel Oyun Oyna Team 📅 ⏱ 6 min read
The Daily Puzzle asks everyone the same two questions each day: first, make the longest Turkish word you can from eight letters and a joker; then combine six numbers with the four basic operations to reach a three-digit target. Each round can only be submitted once a day, so every decision counts. This guide explains how Turkish suffixes help in the word round, when the joker earns or costs you points, and systematic ways to reach the target in the number round. All examples follow the rules of our Daily Puzzle.
Scoring: know what you are chasing
The daily leaderboard ranks players by the total of both rounds. Ties go to the faster total time.
| Word round | Points |
|---|---|
| Each letter in your word | 1 |
| A letter covered by the joker | 0 |
| Using all 9 tiles | +4 bonus |
| Number round: distance from target | Points |
|---|---|
| Exact | 10 |
| 1-5 | 7 |
| 6-10 | 5 |
| 11-20 | 3 |
| 21-50 | 1 |
| More than 50 | 0 |
The best possible day is 22 points: a 9-letter word using the joker (8 + 4 = 12) plus an exact hit (10).
The word round: Turkish suffixes are your friend
The word round uses the Turkish alphabet and a Turkish dictionary, so it is a fun way to pick up some Turkish even if you are not a native speaker. Turkish builds words by adding suffixes, so stretching a short root is the most efficient way to find long words. The dictionary only accepts base forms: plurals, case endings and possessives (kitaplar, evde, kalemim) are not accepted. Words derived with a word-forming suffix that appear in the dictionary are fine, and verbs are written in the infinitive.
The most useful word-forming suffixes
| Suffix | Root → word | Letters gained |
|---|---|---|
| -lık / -lik / -luk / -lük | kitap (book) → kitaplık (bookcase) | 3 |
| -cı / -ci / -cu / -cü | süt (milk) → sütçü (milkman) | 2 |
| -lı / -li / -lu / -lü | tuz (salt) → tuzlu (salty) | 2 |
| -sız / -siz / -suz / -süz | tat (taste) → tatsız (tasteless) | 3 |
| -daş / -deş | yol (road) → yoldaş (companion) | 3 |
| -mak / -mek (infinitive) | oku (read) → okumak (to read) | 3 |
When you look at the letters, first search for suffix letters: L and K together hint at -lık/-lik, while M and K with an A or E hint at an infinitive. Then see whether the remaining letters form a root.
Example
Letters K, İ, T, A, P, L, I, K plus a joker. "Kitap" jumps out (5 letters). The remaining L, I, K are exactly the suffix -lık: KİTAPLIK, 8 letters, 8 points, without touching the joker. If you can add a ninth letter with the joker and still make a valid word, you reach 8 + 4 = 12; if not, 8 points is still an excellent result.
Joker maths
The letter covered by the joker scores nothing, but using all 9 tiles earns +4. So:
- 8 letters without the joker = 8 points.
- 8 letters with the joker = 7 points (the joker eats a letter, no bonus).
- 9 letters with the joker = 12 points.
Only use the joker when it makes your word longer. If you can reach nine letters, it becomes your most valuable tile.
💡 When the word you type is in the dictionary, the tiles glow green and show its points. Try every candidate before you press Submit: testing is free, only the submission is final.
When you are stuck
- Shuffle rearranges the letters and breaks your visual habits.
- Think about vowels and consonants separately. Turkish words mostly alternate them, so with 3 vowels and 5 consonants an 8-letter word needs a few consonant clusters (-rt-, -st-, -nk-).
- Once per day in the word round you can watch a short ad to see the first letter and length of the day's longest word.
The number round: work systematically
You get five single-digit numbers, one big number (10, 25, 50, 75 or 100) and a target from 101 to 999. Each number can be used once; division must be exact and every intermediate result must be a positive whole number. Every day's target can be reached exactly.
Method 1: multiply the big number, close the gap
Divide the target by the big number and find the nearest whole number.
Numbers 3, 8, 2, 7, 5, 75; target 621. 621 ÷ 75 ≈ 8.3, and 75 × 8 = 600. The remaining 21 is 3 × 7: 75 × 8 + 3 × 7 = 621.
Method 2: divide the target by a small number
If the target is a multiple of a small number, the quotient may be close to the big number.
Numbers 6, 2, 8, 5, 3, 75; target 438. 438 ÷ 6 = 73, and 73 = 75 − 2. So 6 × (75 − 2) = 438, using only three numbers.
Method 3: overshoot and come back
Going slightly over and subtracting is often easier.
Numbers 7, 3, 9, 2, 4, 100; target 857. 9 × 96 = 864, and 96 = 100 − 4. Then 864 − 7 = 857: 9 × (100 − 4) − 7 = 857.
Method 4: grow the big number first
Numbers 4, 9, 1, 6, 2, 50; target 487. 487 = 9 × 54 + 1 and 54 = 50 + 4: 9 × (50 + 4) + 1 = 487.
💡 Save small numbers like 1 and 2 for the end. Once your main product is in place, they are the best tools to close a small gap.
If you can't hit it exactly
Your closest result still counts. Being 1-5 away earns 7 points; 10 away still earns 5. Submit a good near miss rather than running out of patience. The step list shows every operation and you can undo at any time.
Streaks and sharing
Finish both rounds and your streak grows by one; miss a day and it resets. The Share button creates a spoiler-free emoji summary, so friends can still enjoy solving the puzzle themselves. Once you have finished today, Practice mode gives you unlimited random rounds that don't count towards the leaderboard.
Common mistakes
- Typing plural or inflected forms. Base forms only.
- Using the joker for nothing. An 8-letter word with the joker scores one point less than without it.
- Submitting without checking. Wait for the green ✓ before pressing Submit.
- Spending small numbers too early. Keep a 1 or 2 for the final adjustment.
- Never submitting while hunting for an exact hit. A close result still scores.
